The Retreat

Residential Care in Essex

The Retreat is a five-bed residential service that offers a safe and comfortable home for people with a learning disability, autism or mental health needs.

Our approach

At The Retreat, we focus on positive outcomes and developing the skills and confidence needed to move towards independent living. The support we offer is carefully designed to ensure that people we support can enjoy life and achieve the best possible outcomes, with control, choice, and independence at the heart of our approach.

We believe in taking positive risks which harness the potential and individual preferences of each person, ensuring that the people we support are encouraged to set goals, make progress, and be valued and active members of their local community.

Our team is there to support with everything from learning skills such as self-care, cooking and cleaning, to supporting people to take part in activities, enjoy their local community, attend college and much more.

About The Retreat

As well as some en-suite bedrooms, The Retreat has a communal lounge and a bright and airy conservatory. The communal space offers plenty of opportunities to spend time with others and take part in a range of activities, while the bedrooms offer a comfortable, personal space that people can call their own.

We also have a self-contained cottage on the same site. The cottage is suitable for one person who requires 1-2-1 support. The cottage is a comfortable, homely environment with its own garden space.

Based in the heart of Walton on the Naze, we’re lucky enough to be surrounded by miles of sandy beaches, a pier complete with amusements and parks. There are also plenty of places to visit a cafe for something to eat or to have a walk around the shops. We love to support people to get out and about in the local area.

Who do we support at The Retreat?

We provide support for learning disabilities, mental health and complex needs who require residential care and support in the Essex area.

Crucially, those living in both the self-contained cottage and The Retreat have access to high-quality support that focuses on achieving goals and meeting their individual needs. In addition to our team of dedicated support workers, the people we support have access to a trained mental health nurse and an in-house psychologist/forensic psychologist, and a PBS Practitioner who specialises in PBS training and support for our teams. We have strong relationships with a wider multidisciplinary team, ensuring that we can access high-quality speech and language therapists, Occupational Therapists, LD community nursing teams and psychiatrists depending on need.

Our Team

All team members undergo a full induction programme, Care Certificate and a combination of face to face and online training. The company has its own in-house trainer and all staff are trained in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

Once in-service, frequent supervisions and ongoing training ensure that our teams have the skills they need to provide first-class support.

In addition, each staff member is provided with further training which is specifically designed to meet the care plan and needs of the person they are working with.
