Peter House

Residential Care and Supported Living

Peter House is an eight-acre site based in the Essex countryside. The site is home to a ten-bed residential service, as well as supported living accommodation for up to eleven people. The mix of residential amd supported living services offers a care pathway on one site, making it possible to reduce care packages over time, while staying in familiar surroundings.

Peter House Residential

Peter House is a ten-bed residential service that offers a safe and homely environment for adults with a learning disability, complex needs and mental health conditions.

Our approach

At Peter House, we focus on positive outcomes and developing the skills and confidence needed to move towards independent living. We believe in taking positive risks which harness the potential and individual preferences of each person, ensuring that the people we support are encouraged to set goals, make progress, and be valued and active members of their local community.

Our team is there to support with everything from learning skills such as self-care, cooking and cleaning, to supporting people to enjoy their local community, attend college and much more. We have a mini-bus which is used for days out and off-site activities.

Our dedicated activities coordinator works with the people supported at Peter House to offer a range of activities to meet everyone’s needs and preferences – from crafts and cooking to exercise sessions.

Over the years, we’ve built a great relationship with the team at Willow Park resource centre, enabling the people we support to access sensory and hydrotherapy space, as well as workshops such as music & movement, drama, arts & crafts, health & wellbeing, computers, cooking and much more. We’ve also established links with local colleges for those wishing to access college courses.

About Peter House

As well as ten en-suite rooms, Peter House offers a large communal lounge and dining area. The communal space offers plenty of opportunities to spend time with others and take part in a range of activities, while the bedrooms offer a comfortable retreat that people can call their own.

Nestled in 8 acres of grounds and surrounded by countryside, Peter House has plenty of opportunities for gardening activities and space for residents to enjoy time outdoors.

Peter House is located in Kirky le Soken, a small village in the Essex countryside, near to Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze. Our location gives us plenty of opportunities for lovely days out at the seaside as well as exploring local towns, villages and attractions.

Care pathways

The Peter House site is also home to a number of self-contained flats and lodges. By having these on the same site, we’re able to support people to move to more independent living as their needs change.

In addition to our team of dedicated support workers, the people we support have access to a trained mental health nurse and an in-house psychologist/forensic psychologist, who specialises in PBS training and support for our teams. We have strong relationships with a wider multidisciplinary team, ensuring that we can access high-quality speech and language therapists, Occupational Therapists, LD community nursing teams and psychiatrists depending on need.

Peter House Supported living

Located in the 8 acres of land on the Peter House site, our three newly built lodges offer self-contained supporting living accommodation which has been finished to a high standard. The lodges have been very carefully designed with safety in mind. With underfloor heating, lights concealed in ceilings, lockable kitchens and a high-tech en-suite which includes concealed controls, the accommodation skillfully manages to combine safety and functionality with a sleek modern finish. All lodges have their own private outdoor area where residents can enjoy spending time in their gardens.

The site also offers a further eight flats, which have been designed to support those stepping down from residential support, before their move into supported living accommodation. The self-contained flats have a kitchen and bathroom which have also been designed with safety and practicality in mind, while also creating a comfortable, modern and homely feel.

Crucially, those living in the supported living accommodation on the Peter House site will have access to high-quality support that focuses on achieving goals and meeting their individual needs. They will also have access to the communal areas and activities at the main Peter House building.
